Job Title: Lead Special Education Teacher
Location: Crossroads Continuum, Marlborough, MA
Compensation: $67,000 - $73,710 per year
Schedule: Full-time, 7:30 am - 3:00 pm (37.5-hour work week)
Job Summary:
Crossroads Continuum is seeking a dedicated and passionate Lead Special Education Teacher to join our mission-driven team. In this role, you will develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and assist with Behavior Management Guidelines (BMGs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) to meet each student’s unique needs. You will supervise ABA Teachers (ABATs), systematically evaluate student progress, and enhance program effectiveness. Additionally, you will serve as the primary contact for communication with parents and legal guardians.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the supervision and safety of students at all times
- Maintain CALM certification and use CALM techniques for student safety
- Demonstrate proficiency in foundational ABA concepts and skills
- Maintain teaching credentials
- Produce high-quality work with minimal errors
- Recognize and acknowledge the contributions and achievements of others
- Plan and organize quarterly field trips and weekly community outings
- Update necessary documentation (e.g., Salesforce) per established protocols
- Assist students with Activities of Daily Living (e.g., showering, toileting)
- Participate in swimming activities with students
- Ensure students have essential items throughout the school day (e.g., meals, toothbrushes, water bottles, AAC devices, edible reinforcers, extra clothes)
- Lift up to half of your own body weight
- Drive students and staff in school vehicles to community locations as needed
- Ensure classroom participation in zones during arrival and dismissal
- Adhere to the Crossroads Employee Handbook and perform other duties as assigned by supervisors
- Develop staffing and classroom schedules to ensure proper IEP implementation
- Take a leadership role at all times (in the classroom, during school events, and on community outings)
- Read and initial home notes for each student every morning after arrival
- Assist in the development of transition plans
- Ensure staff implement clinical and educational programming with high fidelity
- Conduct annual performance evaluations for ABATs
- Maintain a well-organized classroom, ensuring professional presentation of student notebooks, supplies, and materials
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Education, Behavior Analysis, or a related field (preferred)
- Current Massachusetts teaching certification
- 3-5 years of teaching experience in autism or special education (preferred)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Compassionate, hardworking, and punctual
- Interest in building a career in nonprofit service for individuals with developmental disabilities
- Ability to respond quickly and confidently to intervene when necessary (e.g., protective holds, movements, bolting students)
- Ability to successfully complete CALM training, which includes lifting half of body weight, pivoting, squatting, kneeling, and supporting student weight
